I hold a BA degree with joint honours in English and Latin Literature as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education.
After fourteen years as an English teacher, I became head teacher of an independent school before moving to Norway, where I lived for six years.
My writing career has seen me specialise in short stories and articles, and I have been published in a range of national and local magazines and newspapers. My first book: Culture Smart! Norway, part of the Kuperard travel guide series, has recently been published.
Joining Jo Parfitt's online home study course Write Your Life Stories as a tutor is my latest venture. Offering critique and encouragement - and helping new writers find their feet - is something I find very satisfying.
My years of essay-marking experience mean that spelling mistakes and grammatical errors leap off the page at me, but I have also undertaken training courses in proofreading, editing and copywriting. I am an Associate of sfep – the Society for Editors and Proofreaders.
To me a piece of writing which is well-crafted and technically correct is a thing of beauty! It also says a great deal about the writer.
The high quality written word can be a powerful tool in helping to persuade the reader - whether customer, manager, professor or editor - to your point of view.
Jo Parfitt has written 26 books, thousands of articles and has helped hundreds to write and get published.
