Why do I need a proofreader?
After all, I've read through my work, and I've used Spellcheck. Bad news... Spellcheck is not the answer to all your prayers. It will pick up thier, but not their when it's the wrong there! And as for its and it's - Spellcheck is as confused as you probably are by now.
For careful, thorough and accurate proofreading of your work, let a pair of human eyes do the job - a fresh pair.
The trouble with reading your own work is that you know what you want it to say and tend to read the sense rather than what is actually on the page.
Use Good English and give your document it's, sorry its, best possible chance!
Proofreading / light edit
This involves careful reading of your document(s), checking the accuracy of the following:
spelling punctuation grammar correct use of capital letters layout flow (readability) consistency (headings, lists, page numbers, references etc.)
Detailed edit / rewrite
This service is for documents that require more than a basic proofread. In addition, sentence structure, style, tone, sense and accuracy will be examined and, where necessary, suggestions for improvement will be made. The object here is to maintain your mark on the work whilst moulding it to suit its purpose and satisfy its reader.
Your file will be returned with any changes or corrections highlighted and explained using Microsoft Word's tracking. You are then free to accept or reject any of these changes.
Ambiguous or problem text is commented on. If necessary, a query list, noting any points that might require further clarification, will be sent in a separate document.
